What is a Hostname?

Hostname is the computer name (server, VPS, ...) or site name, the host name is the name of the computer on which you are currently logged in or visiting. Below is an example of a host name that is assigned to a computer that connects to the Internet through our network.

vps-name.hukot.net.

Likewise, the hostname may be outside the DNS record:

myvpsname

Or name of website that is running on a machine:

yourwebsite.net

When referring to a website or an Internet address, the host name is more often called the domain name. Hostname is also a command that can be run on some versions of Microsoft Windows and Linux.
