Remote access to get to your computer or VPS over the Internet or in your home or work network.

It's easy in Windows, you just can't have the home version. The PRO version is enough. In the Pro version, you simply enable remote access and then with the help of any remote access program (you will find one directly in Windows, but others will work as well). You get the desktop of a remote computer on your computer. In a fully graphical form, with sound, possibly with printers and so on. You can use it in a window, you can stretch it to full screen (and you will feel like it is working directly on that remote computer).

Enabling remote access in Windows 10 takes place in the original control panels (we are right where Microsoft somehow didn't make it to the end). Right-click the Start button, select System, and then Remote Settings. By the way, you will get to the settings that are from the original Windows 8. At the top you will have the option to set up Remote Assistance, which you are not very interested in, but at the bottom is Remote Desktop - there you must allow remote access. You can also select specific users who can access remotely (which may include creating the necessary accounts).

TIP: In Windows 10 (and Windows 8), you can easily use search without having to worry about finding the appropriate control panels. Just write "Remote access".

WARNING !!! It may happen that even if it is enabled in Windows 10 Remote Desktop, the incoming connection may be blocked by the Windows firewall (usually if the person is connected via "Public network" - or is connected at home but has an incorrect network type ).

INFO: If you do not have the Remote Desktop option in this window, it means that you have Windows in a version where there is no remote access. Which is the Home version, for example. Then you can't use the solution directly in Windows, but you have to use the solution from someone else, read below. Remote access itself is done through the Remote Desktop Connection program - you will find it on your computer, it may not be installed yet (but this is unlikely). You must know the IP address of the computer / VPS to connect.

Other options for remote access

If you can't use what Windows offers directly, you have other options.

Below you will find a quick overview. For some of them, you will have the advantage of being cross-platform - so it will help you to connect to Windows from (for example) Linux or Apple. But also vice versa. Some of them are free open source.

The principle will always be the same, you have to install the "server" part on the computer you want to access, ie the software that takes control of the computer. On your computer from where you will access you will only need the client program.
